Cruise dash light flickering

Cruise dash light flickering
HI-
I'm new to this forum and also a first time Ford owner.
I have a 2003 F150 with a 5.4 liter engine with only 49,000 miles on it.
I have been getting a flickering cruise light luminating on the dash and the cruise control is not on. Has anyone experienced before?
Today, I started the engine up for the first voyage of the day and the engine ran very rough, almost died; and I noticed the cruise light was on as bright as possible. Then, as I ran into town the light just kept on flickering.
I drove to the Ford dealership and left the truck running. They took it out and said they couldn't see the light flickering and the computer didn't show any faults. $40 dollars later I'm heading back home without an answer.
Just a side note: I have noticed the engine runs a little rougher at idle than when I bought the truck with 32,000 miles on it.
