I got a 400 in my 1977 F-150 my plan is to make it into camper puller. What is a good build for these motors. I thought of just getting a Jasper Stage 2 rebuilt motor due to the fact they come with a warranty but also thought building it myself would be cool to. Just in case I will give specs of truck also the new engine I think will run a howell tbi setup 670 cfm 2bbl for better economy and mild offroading.
I would get a nice RV cam, I went with a comp 256 xtreme and I like it quite a bit. Also some long tube headers would be good with dual exhaust of course.
Yes, it is. Alot of guys on here really like the 255DEH, and I haven't heard of too many that run the XE256H. The grind specs are really close but slightly different. If you go to summitracing.com, you can compare the grind specs. I know that the 255DEH is a really good cam for low end torque, there are quite of few builds on here that run that cam. If you are going to tow with your rig, I would lean towards the 255DEH...and get some good pistons from TMI (the forum sponsor who also has whatever cam you want).
TMI can either sell you an engine or sell you an engine kit. Either way will out perform the others out there for the money. Also he is our sponsor and is always out there to answer your questions and make suggestions on your build.
