I was woundering if anyone could tell me where i could buy a power steering pully. My power steering crapped out on me so i bought a new one but i needed to take the power steering pully off. I bought a power steering pully remover but bent the pully all to hell, and NO junk yards have it up my way. Does anyone know where i can get one would be great

Did you go to the junk yards and look? Most of the time they will not sell a pulley alone, so they don't "have" any. You will need to go out and get a whole salvage pump unit. The pulley should not be difficult to remove. Check with the parts store or a mechanic to see if they can get the pulley swapped.

I don't know exactly how desperate you are, but if you are really striking out, I can email you some phone numbers for the junk yards in my area. They are loaded with junk here, and I would think it wouldn't be to out of the ordinary for them to mail you one, if the appropriate arrangements were made.

And the year, model and engine size of your vehicle is what? It's hard to help when you don't list pertinate information.

There are prolly 100 different pulleys that will work on whatever you are working on. At the most, you might have to change the power steering belt to a shorter or longer size. List the info, I'll give you the part numbers and sizes of various pulleys, and the dealer will prolly be able to get one.

Something to consider: Mustangs are everywhere, and Mustangs from 1967 and later have the same diameter p/s pump shaft, as most every other Ford does. It all depends on what year, model and engine size your vehicle has.

Question trouble finding and installign pulley

I have a similar problem finding a power steering pump pulley for my truck. I replaced the pump but probably unintentionally reamed the old pulley slightly bigger than it should be. Despite pressing (not really pressing with a press but using a long threaded bolt with a nut and large washer) the old pulley on the new pump, it came off while running. I tried again, this time pressing it pretty good; now the pump does not work, I can only imagine that I somehow have now damaged the pump. I would like to start over with a new pump (or rebuilt) pump and new pulley. However, I can only find the pump and not the pulley.

This is for a 1978 F-350 6.6 2 wheel drive, dually,

I also replaced the gearbox, pressure line and hose portion of the return line and ran two quarts of power steering fluid through it. I did put in a strainer/filter which is perfectly clear. I don't really understand what I might have done to damage the pump but when cranking there is minimal pumping. I got more when I was turning the pulley by hand.

Any help in locating the pump, cap and pulley would be greatly appreciated as would some advice as to what I might have done wrong.

Thanks
Ed

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Any idea how I might find these parts now. My local Ford dealer laughs at me for having a 1978.

Welcome to FTE

I checked with FTE sponsor Green Sales, since they sell Ford obsolete parts. They have none of these items, but you might call them anyway, as they have other sources. 800-543-4959.

The P/S pump and possibly the cap can be bought from NAPA. The P/S pulley is a junkyard item, unless Green can find something.
