My frieng converts old trucks and cars to diesel. He does not advice to use common rail diesel, becouse water in diesel fuel may easily damadge nossels and U have to check water separator every week in winter and draine water. For cold climate use PLD, ore ECHPFP system ore w/o EDC.
Best diesel engines for aero and Ranger availible in Ukraine are Pegeout 2.5 - 2.8 TDI (used on ford transit and European Ranger), WV 2.5 TDI (was used on Volvo 740-940 in '90s), Mazda E2200 2.2 TDI (no EDC, mechanical fuel pump), Mitsubisi L200 2.3 turbo, Cummins 2.8 turbo ore 3.9 w/o turbo. Mercedes 2.5-2.9 turbo are good too, but require oil pan modification.
I'm going to convert my old aero to diesel next year.
To convert Ranger is easier.
BTW. Diesel runs better, much better with 5st tranny.

BTW. This engine fits Ranger, but requires oil pan modification and installing intercooler under the hood. So additional grill on hood is required.
Sounds like your diesil engines are way more advanced then ours, what a waste on our part in R&D when it comes to a new engine, should ship some of those engines over here, I would'nt mind dumping a 1200ft'lbs torque monster in a f150.
Ukraine wants to be a member of Europ Union, that's why we have to go ahead and use Euro-III and Euro-Iv diesel engines. I sow F150 7.3 turbo. It is Euro-II standard siesel engine. Good and reliable, but ford use pump-injectors like Volvo truck and cummins. If injectors are worn I can not replace nozzels only, I have to replace pump-injection unit, and this is really expencive, that's why I prefer PLD, common rail ore electronically controlled pumps, like DAF/Paccar does now.
New Euro-iv diesel engines have very interesting catalistic converters with AD-Blue (urina) injection to zero NOx emissions, there are 2 tanks on truck, one for fuel, the secont is fo AD-blue. Sometimes I miss old soviet 8 -cyl and 10-cyl turbos made in Yaroslavl.... A lot of power in clouds of black smoke.
Modern diesel runs like gas engine now. To start on old diesel I used to shift to 1st ore 2nd gear and slowly release clutch, modern diesel has no so good torque at 500-1000 rpm, torque is limited with EDC to revent bearings wear, but modern diesel revs up fuster and use less fuel.
