I am planning on replacing the stock front axle on my 55 F-100 with a dropped axle and have come across onf that was originally intended for a 51 F-1. Would it fit? Are they the same width? etc...
Maybe this will help.

Do I need a different drag link with a dropped axle? It would seem that the gear box is now closer to the axle. How about the tie rods clearing the springs?

You need "Dropped" tierod ends, and the steering arm needs to be bent down.
Dick I'm getting ready to install a 3" Dropped Axle in my 51. I have read some not so favorable things about the Tie Rod Drops. Also I see Speedway quit carrying them. My question is who is running them and have they had any bad experiences with them. Where is the best place to purchase them. Are they all the same or is some better than the others.

I've used them a few time over the years, mostly because of the tie rod itself hitting the pan or another part of the undercarrage.
The ones that I used were reasonably well made and held up under some severe conditions inflicted on them by a speed crazed, space for brains, less then reasonable person.
I'll have to check and see who's carring them and where they're made.
thanks Dick, I did actually see them and almost ordered them last night. But thought I should put the axle in and make sure I need them before I order.
