Looking for chip
Superchip has 3 different power levels for most 97 Powerstrokes. Each chip will raise the horsepower, torque, and boost a little more. The power levels are: 50hp and 100 ft/lb torque
70hp and 140 ft/lb torque
90hp and 187 ft/lb torque
The chip that you would want to install would depend on the highest gross vehicle weight you would encounter at any time. The reason for this is that the chip increases the power by increasing the boost, air flow, and increasing the fuel flow. With each greater increase, exhaust temps are also increased. You are safe up to 20,000 gross with the 70 hp chip. Over that and you would need to install the 50hp chip. The 90 hp chip is basicaly for very light towing. The online store here has about the best prices on the web. Feel free to give me a call for further info. 1-877-399-6417. I help Ken with chip questions on his site here.
Thanks
Danny

LAST EDITED ON 19-Nov-00 AT 09:51 AM (EST) by webmaster (admin)[p]Superchips is a good performance chip. I sell them myself. However, another company selling chips of high quality for that vehicle is DiabloSport. It's a smaller design than SuperChips module and likewise offers a 30 day money back guarnantee along with a lifetime warranty. The 1997 Powerstroke is extremely susceptible to higher EGTs with a chip. This is due to the size of the original exhaust down pipe. If the vehicle is used for towing, long distances at highway speeds, or large grades, it is recommended that the downpipe be replaced with a larger version to cut down on the exhaust gas temps. Any muffler shop can do this, or if you are so inclined, there are direct bolt in replacements.
