Not technically a "ricer valve". Even mustangs and turbocharged buicks, anything with a throttle plate "needs" them. See, diesel engines lack a throttle plate, they are throttled by fuel, not air. The only thing a blow off valve will do when it activates is make a sound. I'm not sure it would make too much of a sound anyway as pressure isnt really forced out of it like it is in a gasser. You let off of the throttle, but your engine is still turning and there is no inlet restriction, the air at boost just keeps flowing into the engine, thats it. Maybe a small amount will creep out backwards through the turbocharger but the blowoff valve on these engines is not needed.
Strokin'_tatsch, the wastegate has nothing to do with needing a blow off valve. Looks like you need to read up on some Turbo Tech 101.

Well if something like that were to happen I am pretty sure the airfilter popping off is the least of your worries.
And no, I have never heard of that happening but hey at least the Bov would make a cool sound while its happening lol. Anyways does the turbo on the 7.3 ever really overboost?
