Cam problem

Oh man,
I have a problem. What I have is a 92 f-150 with a 302,5 speed, and a 3.73 rear. My problem is this. I just had a new motor built for this truck. The cam that went in was a B cam. With it went some 1.7 rockers and some slight head work. The heads are the factory e7s. I have the factory speed density computer and a question. What would you go with, an upgraded chip, or mass air? If you would definitely go the chip route, would I have to have one custom burnt, or is there an off-the-shelfer? I dont think that this will be a large consideration, but I also have shorty headers with a gutted cat, followed by straight pipe. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you want even more power than the additional 10% with a chip, then add the larger air system. If your truck is fairly close to what you expected, then go with a chip. Personally, I would add the larger air system, then the chip, why not get everything the engine has to offer. The changes to your engine, cam and lifters, will require a custom program, which requires 2-4 weeks order time. There is a one time charge of $125.00 for the custom programming, no additional charge for adding the air system. Hope I have helped you and not rambled on to cause you any indecision. Good Luck.
Thanks
Danny

my problem isnt with lack of power (though you can never have enough), it is with the way my truck is running. With the different amounts of vacuum I am getting, my map sensor is going crazy. my question was really intended more for this, not power. For my truck to run properly, I need mass air(for its adaptability), or a new chip. This is really what I meant to ask to begin with. This is actually where I wanted your recomendation. The reason I was considering MAF was because no matter what I do (cam, rockers, compression, whatever), the MAF will adjust its settings. The speed density system is actually slightly faster. The draw back with mass air is its $1100 price tag. The 2 to 4 hundred dollar range is much easier attained.

The MAF will allow you quite a bit more adjustment than the chip will. The chip is limited in the amount it can adjust the different parameters, such as timing, ratio, and other variables. In terms of numbers, the MAF will show you greater gains throughout the RPM range than the chip can.
Thanks

Where are you getting that price quote man?
You can get that same set up from summit racing a whole lot cheaper! Take this for instance.

Part number

M-9000-T51 5.0 Auto AOD only $659.95
M-9000-T50 5.0 Manual Trans $609.95

Also add in $6.95 for shipping, as there is no handling charge.

Those prices are directly from summit's website. You can type in the manufacturer, and the manufacturer's part number and it will give you the price. Those two kits are currently on backorder.

If you decide to go the mass air route let me know how it goes.
