will a chip help

I have a 1996 F250 4wd with a 460 engine. I also have installed a K & N filter. I pull a horse trailer and gross about 19000 pounds. Would a chip really improve the performance enough to make a difference?
Thanks,
Brad

Brad: That is a tough one to answer. The chip will add 10% to the horsepower of your truck. The 460 is listed at 240hp. I know that this sounds low, but, that is what the 460 has. The 460 has some pretty nice torque figures, but, lacks horsepower. The chip will add 24 horsepower and 45 ft/lb torque. Your truck most likely weighs about 4500 to 5000 pounds. Add the weight of the trailer you are towing and you most likely will not feel anything different when you spread 24 horsepower over 20,000 pounds. The more weight you deal with, the more horsepower it takes to feel any changes. The average driver can feel 10hp difference in a half/ton pickup. This is a 10hp difference in a 3700 pound vehicle. I really wish that I could tell you that you would feel a world of difference, but, I am being totally honest in telling you that a chip would make little or no difference to your vehicle towing this amount of weight.
Thanks
Danny
