2002 F-250 Superduty 7.3 hesitation when using gas pedal

I just got a 2002 superduty with 110,000 miles on it. I noticed there is a hesitation when using the gas pedal going atound 30 to 40 and between 50 and 65 but it goes away at those speeds when I put the cruise control on. Where do I start? I was looking through the chiltons manual and reaad something about an accellerator sensor, anyone ever have problems with these going bad? Also, I think there is some kind of performance chip right under the dash, but there is no computer head to change any of the programs. It looks like there is a blank chip in it, where would i find what kind of performance chip it is? Thanks for any help.

I would start by check or changing the Air/fuel filters, check fuel pressure, check for leaks. sometimes the simple things can make a truck not fuction right. sorry cant help with the chip question. I only run stock!

I would get a scan tool hooked up and pull codes out of it and monitor pids while its acting up and go from there. the chip sounds like a piggy-back setup. you should be able to remove it and identifiy it by model number or part number. where in ohio are you

Im having the same problem. I have a 02 f250. I have an edge programer and looked for any codes. Its giving me a throtle positioning sensor low voltage code. I bet its just the sensor on the pedal. Im going to try and get a new one today.

I am near akron. I did some hunting and found out the thing under the dash is a security system, a silencer 6900a. I am going to call them today to see exactly what it does. I know it has a starter disabler but I dont have the remote for it and I have not sceen the speaker. I am pretty sure the hesitation/jumping problem i am having is not the fuel filter because it would not go away when putting on the cruise control. I am getting around 15 mpg which is not bad, but i would like to do better. Is it possible? I also want to know if I should think about getting the chip first or worry about the exhaust and air intake. Do any of you guys go through oil between changes? How often do you change your oil for normal day to day driving? I checked mine and it was 2 quarts low. It kinda freqaked me out but the guy who had it before me replaced some high pressure pump and I am hoping he just didnt add oil after he was done. I have not noticed any puddles on the ground. Sorry for all the questions, new to the diesel thing and trying to get my feet wet. Thanks again for any help. Is there a good place to buy the new adjustible pedal assembly? I think it is about 150 from ford and I have called a few junk yards.
