air shocks dont really dampen. if you are lifting the front with the air shocks, they are not going to dampen anything. no shocks will change ride height. they do exactly what they are named. SHOCK ABSORBERS... not shock lifters or supporters. they just dampen the bounce you get from your springs. air shocks wont do that.
Perhaps I did not explain what product I was asking about, or what I am trying to do. You are correct that "no shocks will change riding height" IF you are talking about standard shock absorbers. Perhaps you are not aware of a product that IS a standard shock absorber, but also has a "boot" consisting of an inflatable chamber. This can be pressurized, and the air pressure raises whatever the shock absorber is attached to.
This product is used by people whose vehicles have lost riding height, either due to springs that are too soft, and/or tounge loads that are too heavy. Many people prefer full air bags, for reasons set forth earlier in this "thread", for any SIGNIFICANT additional load capacity.
In my own case, I am not looking to "raise" the vehicle significantly, just an inch or so. I am assuming I will get SOME additional load capacity out of the air shock ( again, AIR shock..not standard shock absorbers alone) which should reduce the tendency to "bottom" over bad roads.
nope, i have never seen a shock combined with an air bag that is aftermarket. do you have a link or pic that i can see? the only cars that have them are the older caddy's and lincolns. they have a shock/air bag. that would work. they ARE designed to hold the weight of the vehicle.

sorry...cant help you with a "link"...I am pretty lame with computers ( you know us old guys..give us a big enough hammer and some welding rod..and we can start civilization all over again...but computers and computering.....hopefully, one of the younger guys who knows how to do what you ask, will help out...!
Oh..I should explain...notice I said "boot"..the typical after-market air shocks dont have a full air bag - just a "boot" that inflates. Hopefully, someone will set you up with a photo of one of the catalogues of the several mfg's of this product.
Try www.Monroe.com, or www.gabriel.com (really the same)
They have been making air shocks since the ice age.
Or you can just search 'monroe air shock'
About 1,000,000 results will pop up.
Just for the heck of it I just traded my 1997 Explorer Limited with factory air ride. The rears are air shocks. I bet they can be modified to work on your X. Good luck!
