Angola
I am new in the Forum & like to introduce myself briefly:
I'm Patrick, German & in Africa the last 12 years, 4 of them in Angola & I love American SUVs.
I even don't have my Excursion yet! I am still with my Chev. Blazer ex Army here but I am about to buy a V10 Excursion probably 2004/5 to import to Angola.
Anybody knows how the engine accepts low octane fuel (90 to 93, leaded) ? Is there modification required?
Are there lift-kits (up to5") which are adjustable in height(airpressure system?)
& will perhaps give a more comfortable ride?
The "roads" are terrible here...
I am happy for any reply,
so long
Yes, the V10 Ex runs well on 87 & 88 octane unleaded fuel. 90 and 93 octane is premium gas here. You can not purchase leaded fuel in the US. I do not know if there is any modifications required to run leaded fuel. Other than the fuel filler has a smaller diameter opening to prevent the old leaded pump nozels from fitting into the tank neck.
I can not answer the lift question. Use the search feature to get a answer to the adjustable ride height question. I find that my stock Ex has a great ride over poor roads.
The octane he is referring to probably isn't the RON+MON/2 method we commonly use here in the US. More than likely it is one or the other or it may be a whole different method. *shrugs*
Kelderman Air Lift can set you up with a full airbags suspension. Be prepared to pay.
There may be better (read:cheaper) options to help smooth the ride on your rough roads.

Monsta is right. If you import a US vehicle be sure its not a California rig for sure. Your best bet is to buy one with an Alabama or Arkansas title. These are two of the least restricted emission states in the US. Take off the catalytic converters if you run leaded fuel. You might be better off with a diesel model. Anyway, get rid of that Chevy!!! Andy
Are there no "tuning" chips or stuff alike to make the engine enjoy the leaded fuel??
The Kelderman option seems indeed a bit pricy & complicated since I plan not to travel to the US but buy "remotely"!
The "roads" here are partly so bad that they are non existent & one looks for a better path next to it, so I really need the truck moderately higher.
The Diesel I would prefer but just exceeds my limits, I still have to add more than 50% customs on the value inc. transport. Its a pity cos the Diesel 6,2 (very good engine!) Chev. gives me no trouble for the last 10 yrs in Africa. Its a great truck , and sorry andy, I will not get rid of it, no ways!

Yes, leaded fuel WILL ruin the catalytic smog/convertor, but so what. Worst comes to worst, if you want to ship the vehicle back to and live in Calif..you'd have to buy a new cat convertor.
