My Truck Will Not Let Me Shift Into Park What Can Be Wrong?

 

The linkage is most likely loose, this happened to me last winter. Can it shift down into 1 or 2? I ended up having the dealer fix mine and it was around $100 IIRC, there are a ton of joints that are a PITA to get to under there, it can all look good and tight but is just loose enough to not allow it to shift right. The other thing could be the safety switch is acting up somehow.

 

Under the dash where the shift cable attaches to an arm are two screws. The screws back out and won't allow the cable to move properly. Remove the screws one at a time, put a dab of loctite on the treads and install. Should take care of your problem. FYI - The screws are torx head.
