Talking adding a keyless entry code to an 05 xlt

My truck came with the card with the keyless entry code and no keyless entry. I did some searching and found some info on adding this. The part # is 6l3z1522405ab: HANDLE ASY - DOOR - it cost 50.56. I purchased this from Y2K Ford Parts (A FTE Sponsor) give Willie your vin he will tell you if it will work. The first thing I did was removed the door panel and I followed the instructions that NASSTY posted on another thread.

Remove the little cover plate behind the interior door handle w/ small flatblade screwdriver.
Remove 2 screws behind the coverplate.
Remove armrest/window switch panel cover.Start from the front of armrest/switch panel and lift the cover off the armrest, then unplug window and doorlock switches.
Remove the screw from switch panel hole w/10mm socket.
Remove speaker grill, pry off with small flat blade screwdriver.
Remove 4 screws to the speaker, remove the speaker and unplug.
Remove the bottom 2 white plastic things the speaker screws attatch to.
Remove 2 screws at the bottom of the door panel.Lift door panel up and away from door while finagleing the interior doorhandle through the hole in the door panel.First you have to unsnap and push the handle in through the door panel, then when removing the doorpanel the handle has to go out through the panel.

Just a tip :I put a layer or 2 of masking tape on the tip of the screwdriver so I don't gouge or ding any plastic parts.

When I got the door panel off I peeled the plastic off and plugged the keyless entry module and tried the code before I went any further (it worked). To get the door handle out it took a 10mm wrench or ratchet.

Take the two 10mm nuts off you will now have to remove a rubber dust cover on the inside of the door and remove the 10mm bolt then you can take the door handle out. I removed the door latch that had a (3) #27 torx head I thought it would give me more movement of the handle (the bolt had blue thread locker on it). I don't know if you need to do this step so I would try not doing this. You will need to disconnect the lock it is held on with a jesus clip there is 3 pieces: the lock cylinder, plastic piece and a metal piece pay attention to the order the come off because you will need to install on the new handle. You will also need to remove the metal loop that opens the door I would do this last you will need alot of movement in the handle to get it off. Then just install the handle and plug in the keypad and reinstall everthing you have taken apart. I asked a local dealer to do this for me they wanted $800 to do it. It cost me $50 bucks and about 1.5 hrs (I had never done this before if you have remove this stuff before it would probally take 45 mins). I hope this helps someone else because I did alot of searching on this and no one installed it themselves they let the dealer do it.

Yeah, those were some 1/2 azzed instructions I gave to someone off the top of my head on how to remove the doorpanel.
I installed the Lincoln Mark LT handles with the key pad on my truck.

Smile Why Keyless?

This might be a stupid question....But what exactly does keyless entry do for you? Still need the key to start your truck! And my xlt came with remote entry on the keychain, I assume yours did to, so whats the point? Not trying to be a wise guy, just askin'. BTW, my truck has the card and number for keyless but no keypad, also.

I find it's really useful for boating, hiking, biking, hunting, etc. Basically any time you are out of the truck and don't want to take the key with you for fear of losing it, getting it wet, or dropping it to the bottom of a lake.

I just hide the key in the truck, lock the door and leave. When I get back, key in the code, get the key and I'm off. Plus you know you will never be locked out...as long as you can remember the code.

I probably wouldn't have put the option on my truck if I was buying it originally, but since this one came with it, I can't imagine being without it.

They helped me out. Thanks

The reason I did it was for when I go fishing I can leave the keys inside the truck and not worry about dropping them in the ocean. The other reason was for $50 I can gain access to my truck if I ever lock the keys inside. I have had my dog step on the lock button before and the truck was running but the window was half way down so it was no big deal. If anything like that happens it will have paid for itself.

I like my keyless entry. When I walk out to get something out or put something into my truck I sometimes forget to get my keys. Never have to go back in to get them now. Plus I start my truck in the morning to warm it. I lock it back up to prevent theft. Push in my code and off I go in a warm truck!

I bought my Lincoln Mark LT handles because I liked the painted buckets better than the textured plastic surrounding the handles. The key pad was just an added bonus.

See, now Im glad i asked. I see how it would be useful now. I often take my kids to the lake to swim and hide my keys in my shoes while im swimming. It would be easy for someone to steal them and walk around in the parking lot hitting the alarm button till they find my truck to steal. And I would never have to worry about locking myself out or calling a locksmith(luckily this has never happened...knock on wood). Do you think my XLT is pre-wired for it?? It does have a plastic card with keypad numbers in the owners manual case.

I have it on my XLT, so there's probably a good chance the wiring is there.

The keyless entry pad thingy was just socks on a rooster to me when I got the truck. But then I used it a few times and now I love it, for many of the reasons stated above. Like going to a ballgame or concert, don't worry a thing about losing your keys. And I figured I'd never use that feature one time.

I would say yes it is. But I would give Willie (at Y2K Ford Parts) the Vin number and he will check and see if you can do this.

Willie

soxfan, Is that the way yours worked out....you just plugged it in? I will give him a call. Sounds like a feature that would be handy at a cheap price.

Yes that is the way mine worked out I had the harness sitting inside the door. I don't believe that they would program your cpu with a keyless entry number if they didn't include the harness to add the option. YK2 Ford Parts is a dealership in Washington State. I just gave them the VIN number and they assured me that it was going to work.
