I just got my downpipe in the mail. I have read some previous post about the install. Do I need to get any gaskets or such from parts house before I tackle this job?
I am alittle confused on the firewall masage part,,,,,Does anybody have a picture of the cuts they made into the firewall?
It also sounds like removing the insulation is the way to go,, right?
Nope, no gaskets needed. But if you break the bolt on the turbo clamp you have to buy a new clamp (bolt not sold seperately). I'd throw away the regular exhaust clamps that came with the dp and use band clamps. You'll see where you need to cut and massage (beat senseless) the firewall. Set the top have of the dp in place and it's easy from there to mark and go.
I'm new to this forum and have read with interest the info on the downpipe. I just crawled under the truck tonight, and saw how the OEM pipe looks like someone stepped on it for the full length in order to crush it to fit the space. Hard to imagine a 3 or 3.5 inch pipe fitting in there. After cutting and bashing the firewall as required, does the heat shield stay in place, and will there be enough clearance from the pipe to the firewall to be safe from creating a fire hazard on the interior flooring?

If anyone has photos, that would really help!
Thanks,

It will fit you just have to put two cuts in the flange that is 1/2 way down firewall and sinply bend it down. Not very hard to do. You won't create any fire hazard. I can't remember about the shield but I believe that it goes away as well. If you want you can wrap the new DP with the heat wrap we used to put on our gasser headers. It may help some.
Between your advice and the pics, it looks like a straight forward job. I can't understand why Ford didn't put in a 3 inch round DP to start with! I'm going to keep the 95 F250 for several more years, so it's worth the trouble and cost to make it breathe easier.
BTW, last week I had the front spring shackles, ball joints, front axle seals, and the transfer case replaced, and an alignment and the steering box tightened--wow, what a difference when I hit a pot hole or even back out of the driveway. It feels like a new truck, no clunks or vibration at all now. The point is, though, that when you get a bill like that one, the shop offers you a ball cap AND a sippy cup! I felt really special....
