I have been looking into which chip would be right for my 2000 F250 4x4 CC 7.3 Diesel. Considered a Diablo chip but them ran into a Dyno test at Ford-Diesel' web page http://www.ford-diesel.com/contents/getitems.php3?Part%201%20-%20Paducah%20Dyno%20Test. This info looks like some of the major brand of chips have EGT's in the 1500 degree range. Aren't these temps to high? I am confused on which chip to go with!!! Any input would be appreciated.
Robert: I have pored through the entire article, every word. First thing that they tell you is that this is not real world testing. Performance chips have been installed on Powerstrokes since 1994. If there were a real world problem, it would have surfaced by now. Go back and read the entire article. I have yet to find a customer with a pyrometer installed that has seen above 1300 degrees. There may be some that have, I have yet to have a customer call with a damaged engine from a high egt, caused by a chip. There are some tests that do not apply to real world driving. Several places in the article the author states that this data should not be used to purchase a chip. I'm not sure exactly how to answer you, except to say that there would be problems of massive proportions if engines were damaged by the chips, it just is not happening. Do as the article states, check around the forums, talk to folks that use them in real world situations.
Thanks
Danny
