I was told by a friend that if you put in a cai and change the exhaust the computer will notice that the truck is going lean and will change the computer program, therefore making your upgrades pointless? I guess what he is saying is that the computer will adjust the program. And you are back to stock. And ideas?
I am not sure. I guess he said that the computer would notice the changes and adjust. I am not sure. Just wondering if there was some truth behind that?
The computer will adjust itself to keep the engine running at the correct Fuel / Air ratio, but a CAI and exhaust do not modify this ratio, they just help the engine breath better. So No, the computer will not adjust itself to negate the modifications.
Think about it...in order for your engine to run lean, it has to be getting too much air and too little fuel. Obviously a CAI and exhaust ain't gonna screw with the amount of fuel, but it will cause better airflow. This is going to give you more air.
The PCM will correct for it, adding fuel to correct the mixture.
What does more air and more fuel equal? MORE POWER.
