which 4spd behind 69 360?

Which 4spd is most likely behind a 360 in a 69 F100 2wd? Thanks, Matt.

The one I bought as a donor truck and is now sitting in my 53 is a Borg-Warner T-18.

I'd like it to one day be a T-19 which is a fully syncro transmission but it is the same case and dimension. Instead, the T-18 has a non-syncro first gear. The shift pattern in mine is a standard H with Reverse being all the way to the right and up.

My '75 F150 came with a T18 and the reverse on it is to the right and back.
Seems like a read where they were made with different shift patterns.

Are you sure about the T18 and T19 having the same case tho?
Dimensions yes, but the case, seems like I read, was shaped different. (?)

There isn't a better 4-speed than Fords own Toploader.

than a Ford top loader.I
I can feel the flame wars coming now.

NP 435 was only rated at 327 ft/lbs torque.
With that crappy design mishmatch of taper bearing bucking against
a ball bearing (#308L 7 ball) the ball bearing will fail if your
an agressive driver or if your motor making torque.
Aluminum shifter top also crappy vs iron top like a T-18/19.
Speed shifting would make mine fail within 500 miles
or a week which comes first.
A 11 ball 308 bearing will live longer being 1.57 times stronger.

Bear; I never said Chrysler in a Ford, had that 4 speed in a 69 Javelin which started out as a 401 until a stroker crank was installed.
Broke everything in the drivetrain hence iron Chrysler box and 9" for a fast Rambler.

Matt.
Just realized a guy i know has a '70 F100 (he bought new) with some sort of New Process transmission instead of a T18 (like mine).
He towed a boat quite a ways and that was the reason/excuse he had to have the transmission replaced, I think it was water did it in. :/

The Ford 9inch wheel bearing caught fire and burned a big patch of paint off the bed around the same time. He has stories about having to get someone to take him to town to buy a new wheel bearing and replacing it while they were at the lake or along side the road etc.

I rebuilt mine because "it wasn't as synchronized" in 2nd as I figured it should be.

What's your situation?
You got one (or looking to buy one) and want to know what it is or what?

Just picked up the truck, nothing particularly wrong with it just haven't checked it out enough to know for sure what it is yet. Eventually would like to put in a 5spd, still looking at what it would take. Don't think any of the fe's came with an od so probably going to have to get crearive, matt.
btw where is vail az? I lived in prescott for a while.

Transmissions for FE's in F100/350's

Manual: Both the Warner and the New Process 435 4 speeds were used 1965/76. The Warner T-85N three speed overdrive transmission was available 1965/72 for F100's only (2WD). The 3 speed manual all syncro was standard equipment.

Automatic: MX Cruise-O-Matics (aka Big Cruise-O) used 1965/67. C-6's from 1968/76.

What's the rear-end's gear ratio? Check out the metal tag. ;)
What size tires you running?

Check out a chart for my RPMs with 31.5 inch 235/85-16's and 3.25 gear. :)
(2150 @ 60mph?)

Enough to make it so the smallest speedometer correcting gear wouldn't fix the odometer... no one ever figured anybody'd be silly enough to use that RPM range, is how I figure it. :)

Now with my new 3.50 gear (same tires) the smallest available speedometer gear would-fix-it perfect. But I've decided to keep the size it came with tho, which is one step larger than that.

This is the question in my mind...
Why would you spend money on an over drive when you can get any RPM range you want with gears and tires?

The shift patter on T-18's changed because of pivot lever change to other side of pivot inside case.

Most 2wd I've seen have T-18

Most 4wd I've seen have NP435

Just what I've seen

I prefer the 435, shifts a bit better, and have had problems with single shifter locating pin on T-18's breaking or wearing out.
