hello to all my buds out there, i have a 04 f-350 with the 6.0L pick up super cab with a short bed. it only has 40,000 miles on the truck and the upper and lowerball joints on both side are worn out to the point the truck will not pass an inspection. so has anyone had the similar problem, the truck has ran great and a tip to all the 6.0 diesel owners put lucus oil stablaizer in them with start and run better alone with milage increase by 1 to 2 miles better. this was put in with rotella t 15w-40 motor oil.
Do a search and fine out all you need to know. I have had all 4 of my ball joints replaced under warranty. and no way would I put Lucus in my truck don't like them.
I have sightly oversized tires (35") from 50,000km mark. At 56,000km all my ball joints were worn similar to yours. Warranty reluctantly gave in to replace them as their opinion was the cause was my oversized tires. In that short of time-BS. At 105,000km all ball joints were wor again.
I was not prepared to change ball joints every 50,000km or so, therefore I replaced the junk ford OEM "seaed" ball joints with Moog "greasable" quality ball joints. They are little more expensive but will out last the stock parts at least 2:1 if not more particulalry if you grease them regularly. Therefore they are well worth the money if you plan on keeping the truck for more than another 50,000km.
If you look at the 2008 superduty you will notice Ford is starting to go bac to "greasable" joints, probably not Moog though. That should tell you something.
Also, check your sway bar bushings as mine were worn out at similar mileage. Again avoid using junk Ford rubber OEM sway bar bushngs and order some energy sway bar bushings. These are cheap items but again the Energy brand is slighlty more expensive and outlast the stock OEM at least 2:1.
The aftermarket parts will provide better durability and life adn help other components as well such as avoiding exessive or uneven tire wear.
well looks like alot of you have had the same problem, you would think ford would have recalled the ball joints. well looks like i'm going to be bussy with this truck for the rest of my life always something wrong with it, they just aren't built to last anymore. well im going to put mogg ball joints in the thing they are the best put in a 95 power stroke at 100,000 miles and have not had any problem with them. thanks for the advice you all
