7.3L vs. 6.0L

my buddy just bought an 06 6.0L cc 4x4 powerstroke. I myself have an 01 7.3L cc 4x4 and love it. I got a few mods done to her (valve body, 6637 filter, straight pipe exhaust, and jody chip. . 120 race).

What I was wondering is after my boy gets the jody chip, air, and exhaust - how much faster will his truck be than mine? It already seems pretty quick being bone stock. Also what will the hp diff. be after they are both modified?

6.0's come very close to 400 rwhp with nothing more than Jody's tunes and exhaust. Our trucks are just over 300 rwhp with chip, intake, and exhaust.

6.0 will beat the 7.3 any day except for one important thing!
7.3l=200k miles pretty easy ; 6.0l=200k miles if its lucky.

Come to think of it, I have yet to see a 6-blow over the 200k marker (with original engine). Have any of you?

I don't think that's a fair statement about the 6.0, I know of a couple over 200,000, and have read here about some with a lot more miles. The later 6.0's are just as good of engines as the 7.3's IMO, people just seem to be more willing to overlook the 7.3's quirks for some reason.

I agree with clux, except he implies that there aren't any quirks with the 6.0.

I suspect there will be 500k+ 6.0s once enough time passes. Now that my daughter is getting closer & closer to that driving age, I'm thinking my 7.3L with a cow catcher (Civic catcher??? ) will be a nice first vehicle. That means I get to look for a new toy. I'm thinking by then, the 2007 6.0 trucks should be pretty reasonable. Hopefully I'll find a relatively low mileage deal like I got on my 7.3...

No, not at all. I just don't understand why so many are quick to point out the 6.0's quirks and are also so willing to overlook the 7.3's.

A part of me (the motorcyclist) is terrified of that statement (new driver in an 8000lb vehicle), but another part of me is incredibly jealous!!

My guess would be that 7.3 quirks (like the pesky CPS, and occasional oil leaks) are easy fixes compared to injectors, gaskets, & turbos that 6.0s are known to eat much more frequently. A quick read of the 6.0 forum will tell you that. That said, I'd own the later 6.0 -- I have several buds with them that haven't had any problems so far. If that changes, so will my thoughts on getting one!

lol... Well, I'm not putting *MY* daughter in a Civic, Psion, or whatever "chick" car is the latest rage by then. If she or someone else messes up, I know which vehicle I want her in!!

Besides, by then, I hope to have her already knowing how to replace a CPS, change oil, and drive said 8,000lb. truck...

I think we all like the 7.3 for the same reason that the 6.0 guys like theirs. Its yours. we all know that a 6.0 will beat a 7.3 (stock to stock, mod for mod) Hell, sometimes we bash them just to have fun, sometimes they bash us for being old school. Does it really matter, We are all driving Super Duties and X's.

I have seem a quite a few 6.0's getting on up in mileage. Even know a man that has an 04 with no warranty claims, He pulled trailer for trailer every one that I did after the hurricanes of 05, after that he started hotshoting it and is up to 180K now. Do I pick on him? Hell yes, does he pick on me for having outdated technology, Hell yes. do we have beers together and make fun of our other buddy w/ a Chebby, HELL YES.
To the OP: you will get beat, he's about a second faster than you. but who cares, it is all in the fun.

At a 6.0 level (or slightly less) of performance, the 7.3 suffers daylighted blocks, blown headgaskets, and eats transmissions. Seems like just as big of problems to me.

I know some guys love to race their trucks - it's fun to light 'em up, sure, but for me, I got a 7.3 because it was finally to the point of having most of the bugs sorted. Sure, the CPS is weak. But now it's $25!! Besides, if I'm gonna race, I'm not bringing a knife to a gun fight - I'll be on the motorcycle... My truck's not a racer, never will be - but it won't leave me stranded either.

IZZY - I should have looked at where you live!! I'm from Baltimore and seeing a 17yr old in a SuperDuty when I'm on my motorcycle was almost as bad as being near a Volvo or minivan. Now, you Texans, SuperDuty's are the 'normal' size - getting a big truck means an F650!!

Dont get me wrong. I like the 6.0, just mainly the looks and sound. I am just saying I havent seen one. I am sure a garaged kept, pampered 6.0 will do 200k without breaking a sweat.

My in-laws own an oilfield swabbing company and have about 40 field trucks. None of the 6ohs have gone past the 200k marker without some serious work. These trucks get worked HARD. I'll need to ask how the last batch of trucks have been doing. They still have a few of the older 7.3s with over 300k, just because they are true reliable work horses.
