86 6.9 fuel problem

hey all....looking for some help. i have a 86 f350 with a 6.9 in it. always ran good till about a week ago. it started stalling out after about 10 miles or so..then to get it running again i had to push the bleeder valve in on the fuel filter unit and crank it till all the air was out and the fuel filter fill up again. it finially stalled again and will not start. the filter is full..when i took the fuel line off that goes directly to the injector pump and crank it...not much fuel comes out.also i took one of the injector lines off...and nothing there. i was told it was sucking in air through a cracked fuel line...cant find anything. i was wondering if it can be the the manual fuel pump on the motor goin bad..and not pumping enough fuel.....being that it cant seem to keep the fuel filter full...or maybe the injuctor pump on its way out. any help would be awesome. thanks

if you remove the valve core out of the schraider valve, and disconnect the wire off the ip so it doesnt run. with a fuel pressure guage attached you should get between 5 and 7 psi at cranking speed. do not start for more than 20 seconds and let starter cool for 2 to 3 minutes between tries.

if you still have the water separator on the fire wall and its hooked up, it could be sucking air there, very notorious for problems ... could be sucking air from a worn fuel line (check the lines along the frame) ... could be broken or cracked stand pipe in the tank (drop the tank and look at the stand pipe/pickup tube) ... could be the fuel lift pump is not working/worn out. Work from the engine back

You can take the line from the pump to the filter head off and see if it's pumping by cranking a few times before installing an electric pump.
I've been having a few leaking air problems as well. I have reinforced nylon tubing now from the switch to the water separator with a Fram G-3 prefilter ahead of that. It looks like it's sucking air (lots of little tiny bubbles) from the prefilter connection to the water separator. Is nylon bad?
