Is anyone familiar with this deduction?

What do you want to know? Ten years of tax experience. Be sure to consider your state tax codes. Better yet, check in with your local CPA. Since you are in NY, I don't know off the top of my head if NY follows federal. For example in California, the Franchise Tax Board does not conform to IRS code on Section 179.
