Is the 6.0 intercooler really that much better then the 7.3 one? Did Ford make the 6.0 one with non-plastic side tanks? Is a 7.3 one with metal sides a better install than a 6.0 one with plastic sides?
If I were to do it all over again I would have used a 6.0 cooler. Still might. The plastic tanks seem to be just fine south of 40 psi. Maybe even more. Also ford did not make a 6.0 IC with metal ends. Just plastic
I have the 6oh cooler but never had a 7.3 to compare with. I do know that alot of 99+ superduty guys are swapping in 6oh coolers so their must be something gained.
there are some coolers ford made with metal end tanks. Im buying a JOBE performance cooler and doing a one off shaker hood intercooler kit for my OBS. If a guy could throw in a 6.4l cooler he'd be set. That thing is huge! It honestly looks like a cooler outta a freightshaker, haha.
I found a 6.0 Im going to install. While I was looking though I saw one from a Cummins engine and couldnt believe how big that thing was compared to the ford ones.
More surface area generally means lower temps. Of course larger air tubes through the cooler shell also equal lower temps. thats why alot of guys go aftermarket coolers cause they utilize larger tubes and fins as well as have CNC'd end tanks that create less turbulence, increasing air flow. So many little things add up to so much more power
