Ok, I'm new to the 6.0 and actually know nothing. However, yesterday I was installing a Banks High Ram on my 04 F250PSD and when I pulled off the driver side intercooler tube I noticed there was oil laying in it and what appeared to be a few small metal shavings. Can anyone tell me what might be going on with this one? Thanks!!!
sounds like you got some turbo wash going on. Oil is from the turbo and the shavings from the vains (worse case) but it makes sence to me. Have you been running an aftermarket airfilter?
Oil in the CAC tubes is normal. The crankcase is vented into the air intake just ahead of the turbo. Only way to prevent oil in the CAC tubes is to re-route the crankcase vent tube. This mod is in the tech folder.
And lose the A/M air intake, they are a bad deal on the 6.0 and will cause warranty issues with FMC
Yup, I agree... It is normal and it is ok up to a point. Your valve breather and PCV valve hoses are usually routed back into the intake piping. Then the oil goes throught the turbo, then IC then gets burned. The problem is, that some of that oil builds up inside the intake piping, compressor and finally intercooler. So it builds up and builds up, attracks dust and dirt and finally you have a clogged IC. Not good at all. IC efficiency goes down. What I recommend doing is getting an oil catch can/breather valve (in my GMC case I usually use a GMC air filter recharge kit which is usually has the cleaning compound found in a oil catch can) to avoid sending the oil into the intake if you are not comfortable with the mod of re-routing the crankcase vent tube. Good luck!!!
