The cable that runs from the solinoid on the fender to the starter broke off yesterday,at the starter, either from corrosion or to much load. I wasn't able to get a good look at it yet. Where can I get this cable, auto parts store, dealer or ??
rat shock, or any audio store, would do, let me know what the size of the bolts are or do a pix with measuring tape next to them , and ill see if i have them, than i can send them to you ,,,
I like to hold the connector in the vice while I heat it with a torch to the point where you can fill it up with solder and stuff the end of the cable in. Careful the dog isn't sleeping underneath or it might get tinned a bit when it splashes out a little...
Not quite, but it is about as big around as my.....................
thumb. It may be overkill, but it's what I have around.
I always use #4 welding lead for battery and starter cable that's also what jumper cables are made from
maybe a litte hard to get an end for 4\0 with eye that small but check your friendly welding supply
cold take 5\8 copper tubing and mash on end then solder and drill hole
think that is close to 4\0 have done it in emergencies when i didn't have an end
Well, it won't be that simple I'm afraid. It looks like the cable is one piece from the DS battery to the starter. I started to dig into it before the rain came tonight and all I did was manage to break off the back of the solinoid on the starter.
ooooops. to bad i threw out my old starter, it has a good solenoid, i would have given it to you, but ill look again, maybe i didnt, ill go look and let you know.
and to make long story short, the reason i replaced it was i had problems with starting the truck on and off, i pinn it to the starter, and got the new one, so after i took it out i found out the Long bolts that hold the main housing together eas broken and the housing was twisted, so you might end up putting the bolt from yours and might be all set,
I got it fixed last night. I used a 3/0 welding cable end and the stock cable with the end cut off. I bent the end at a 90 and soldered it to the factory cable. I installed a new solenoid on the starter also.
TIP: if installing a new soenoid, pull the plunger out and install the spring behind it. I didn't and ended up removing the starter to install the spring.
