Ok, I'm a novice.. but I can't wait...
I'm doing a frame off restore on a 53 f100.
ANY and ALL tips on how to remove the cab would be GREATLY appreciated.
What do I need to know about the steering wheel...???
I've removed the engine, trans, fenders, bed.....
Thanks in advance...
Steve

With the cab completely gutted out, I used two 2x4 boards put through sideways and walked it off with a helper like a stretcher. I had the 4" side vertical.
Welcome! This is THE place. If the guys/gals on here can't figure it out, it's hopeless! Not to be nitpicky, but it's an F-100 if it's a '53. They changed 'em in '53. I'm just finishing my '53. You're gonna have a ball.
There are only 4 bolts holding the cab on if you've got everything else loose. Just the two on the front floorboard, and the two on the arms on the back of the cab. Take the bolts out of the frame end of the arms. The cab to arm bolts are kind of hard to get to with the cab on.
My learning experience was the pedals and steering column. You've got to disconnect the pedals from their respective linkages so they drop completely out of the way. The steering column is weird. Get the wheel off, disconnect the brackets, take the pitman arm off and disconnect it from the frame. Then drop it down and out of the way.
Then you just need 3 friends to help you lift it.
My best advice is to invest in a shop manual. They're readily available, pretty cheap, and REALLY helpful at times.
Thanks for the input... I will try and find the shop manual... any hints go a long way. I've not tackled the steering wheel yet. Rusty bolts and scraped knuckles getting the fenders off was fun.
Four bolts, 3 friends, and a ice chest full of frosty beverages. Welcome to the FTE. Lots of good info and Great folks to type to. Any Q's you have to ask will most likely get an answer. Nice truck have fun and post lots of pics. ..........RUSTY
I've removed and loaded cabs (and front clips) all by myself. This requires a cherry picker and an extended square tubing.
I went to the local metal shop and purchased an "extension" bar to fit over the existing bar on the cherry picker. I drilled a new hole and in the extension bar and added a longer chain. I then removed the existing chain and hook from the cherry picker and attached it to the new chain. I set the existing lift bar to the 1 ton setting (on a 2 ton crane) and slipped the extension bar over the existing bar. Lastly, I extended the legs to the maximum distance allowed.
All you need then is two long straps criss-crossed or four shorter straps at each corner of the cab roof or cab bottom. Make sure that you center the cherry picker of the roof and that your straps (or rope) is even on all sides.
I removed and loaded all that you see onto the trailer by myself.
If you have the doors off, you can use the cherry picker from the inside, no extensions required. I have a pic in my gallery of this.
For the steering wheel, I wouldn't bother taking the wheel off if you are taking the column and steering box out too. Remove the acess panels at the column, disconnect the steering box from the pitman arm and frame, and pull the whole assembly out through the cab. Those bolts will probably be easier than getting the wheel off.

Thanks to all.. I'm guessing you all know any and all advice helps a ton. Digger, I liked your gallery... and I'm thinkin I will take your advice on the steering wheel...
okay, so i got the four bolts out the cab of my 55, but have a question, are the inner fenders attached to the frame, or do they "float" between the cab and radiator support.
i pulled the two bolts out of the radiator support and tried lifting the cab fenders and all, but with no luck
