Hot Shot's Secret
Hot Shot comes in 64 oz bottles and it states it treats 5-6 gallons of oil. You said to make sure to leave out 2 quarts on the next oil change, so I'm assuming that would be using the entire 64 oz's, should the entire amount be used in an oil change?
I've got it in there now, went in there with my last oil change at about 1000 miles ago. For me, like Green_dually, I didn't notice much of a difference. There are a couple reasons why I believe this to be true.
One, since I switched to Schaeffer's 9000 oil, the truck has started to run much better. I ask my Schaeffer's rep about it and he confirmed that he's seen this in several PSD trucks before. It's because of the additive package they put in the oil. That additive package does an excellent job of cleaning up the inside of the engine - including the injectors. This has been confirmed by the Blackstone analysis too. They came back a little more "dirty" than what I had seen for the first two oil changes. The third came back looking as good as I have seen on my truck. The Schaeffer's oil was/is cleaning out some gunk inside the engine (including wear metals imbedded in the gunk), which gave the higher readings for a couple changes.
Two, I didn't notice any difference in turbo performance, but I have just recently rebuilt my turbo over the winter, which included putting a mirror polish on the turbo shaft and thrust bearings. So, my turbo was exceptionally clean to begin with and running great already.
I think the Hot Shots will work for some - obvious by some of the reports here. But for the couple of reasons I stated above, I don't think it's done much for me. I will leave it in till my next normal oil change and see how the Blackstone report comes back.
