Mpg?

I have a 97' F250 auto tranny 460 with 100k miles and i get 8mpg city and high way. My good friend has a 93' F250 auto tranny 460 with about 70k miles i think and he gets 10 city and 12-14 high way. Did i just get a gas hog lemon or is he just that good?

could be yours needs a tune-up, could be yours lost some compression, or it could be you just drive it harder... all will have a bearing on mileage.

i do get about 9 in all-city (under 40mph the entire tank, stop and go). on a trip i just got like 13.2 hwy, personal best. i haven't done much to mine. waiting to do plugs & wires, fuel filter, synthetics, etc. my goal is 14-15 since it already seems pretty high.

My 94 F250 supercab long bed 4x4 460 E4OD 4.10 gets between 10 and 12mpg mixed city and freeway. I am not a gentle driver. I get between 8 and 10 towing an 8,000# trailer unless I hit hills or headwind. I have seen as low as 5-6mpg towing in nasty conditions.

Your mileage will vary depending on all the features I listed above. Gears and 4x4 will affect things the most I think.

With 100K miles you might need a tune, filter changes, O2 sensor etc.
