Well walked out this morning and noticed that my truck is starting to leak oil.Its a pretty good size stain.I checked both my oil levels and both seemed to be good. The oil looks like it is coming from right above the oil pan,or somewhere in that area.Any ideas on what it might be?
Well I got back under and did some more looking and it was coming from the back of the oil pan.So I guess tomorrow morning ill be going to get a oil pan gasket. It seems to be a really easy job, just could get a bit messy.Anything difficult i might need to know about?
i'd start with the oil pan gasket first, its cheap and easy.
I don't think you can change it without yanking the motor...
There are other places to check first. The dipstick, for example. And make *SURE* it's not coming from above. A lot of folks are fooled by leaky CAC tubes or turbo O-rings because of how the top of the motor drains down the side/back of the block. Makes it look like your rear main is leaking. I panicked when I saw all the oil, then did my first mod -- CCV bypass. It's been squeaky clean ever since.
Well kinda new to the powerstroke,so where would i look to see if the CAC tube was leaking.I also checked the dipstick flange and it is still dry as could be around it.
Look around the base of the turbo for leaky O-rings. The CAC tubes are the large orange tubes under the intake (spider). These are the most common sources of oil, from what I can tell. There are other things, but these are by far the most frequent. I bought my truck with 60k on it and they were leaking like crazy. I tightened all the CAC boots up and routed the CCV to the rear of the truck to keep the oily mess out of there. Then I cleaned the engine with Simple Green and there's no trace of oil. Now that I'm home, I'll be pulling the I/C out to clean the oil out of it. Cleaning is not really necessary from what I understand, but I'm curious about how much oil is in there...
Well just got from under the hood looked all around the turbo and CAC hoses, the hose was a little nasty, but nothing lose or leaking seriously.Looked around everywhere else and couldnt see any leaks.Still seems to be that pan.
