I hope someone here knows anything about this. When I shut my ranger off after driving it for a while, I immediately hear a "hissing" sound, and can see water dripping out from what looks like the head gasket, onto the headers. Does this mean the head gasket is shot or is it something else? It is always in the same spot. Also, my radiator water has been going down lately. I hope i didnt blow the head gaskets again. I have been revving my truck pretty high lately. Damnit.
Me and a buddy did it (he is a mechanic and did head gaskets on 20 cars for people). All i had to buy was the parts. We did both banks, both new heads and gaskets...thats why i am pissed. I got new gauges for it that were accurate and got rid of the ****ty stock ones. It overheated just a little bit when my water pump belt let go a couple weeks ago. I shut it off as soon as I saw the temp go higher than normal. If it cracked the heads or somethnig again just from that I am going to be real pissed.
177k on the motor. I usually wind it up to 6000 and dump it into 2nd, then hit 6000 and dump it into 3rd. I have been doing this every day since 170,000. Then it overheated to about 260 degrees around 174k and cracked the heads
When the truck is shut off, you will hear a hissing sound as the a/c pressures equalize. The dripping could be condensate from the evaporator. There is a hose in the firewall under the fan that allows the water to drain out of the system. Check and see if this is what you are seeing. jd
