I have a 2000 Winstar and was driving with the air on and the AC quit blowing cold air as well as the Odometer (LCD) went from readable numbers to just a series of dashes. I've gone through the manual to see which fuses have anything to do with the AC Compressor clutch and they are all fine except the relay 204. I pulled the top off as I was trying to remove it and a thin copper band was exposed. The engine was not running so I touched the copper band and I could hear a clicking sound from the compressor. Is this relay shot? Is there any other possible reason these two items would fail at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is nearing 100 outside.
Well today I started checking all the fuses inside the passenger compartment. Found a blown 10A fuse either #10 or #14 spot on the schematic. Replaced it with another 10A and as soon as I turned on the ignition to on the Odometer was reading but when I started the engine the fused blew. I then replaced it with a 15A fuse and the vehicle started and everything including the AC was actually working for about 5 minutes before that fuse blew. I don't want to go up to a 20A fuse as I don't want to damage something else. Any suggestions?
I don't know that much about tracing a short with a voltmeter when that many wires are involved. I took the Windstar to Ford on Friday at 7:30 am and when I checked back with them at 5pm that evening they told me that they had not been able to find the short either so they are keeping it and said hopefully I will get it back sometime monday. If it's taking Ford this long I know I would be lost looking for the short.
Well Ford had the vehicle for 5 days and I finally got the call yesterday that they found and fixed the problem. As it was explained to me some switch in the ABS system and a low brake pressure switch were causing the the fuse for the Odometer, Speedometer, and A/C clutch relay to pop.
- Time to fix the problem - 5 days.
- Cost to fix the problem - $250
- Having A/C back in our Windstar in Orlando Florida - Priceless !
