What would you do?

I have a 2000 F-150 XL 4.2 5-speed. I love my truck but I have an oportunity to get something different. My mom wants a new Impala (I'm going to make her get a FORD!). She has a 2001 Explorer Sport Trac. It is fully optioned except for leather seats and 4wd. She told me that if I could sell my truck for $6000 she would give me the Sport Trac for that price. It needs some work (brakes, rattles etc). The Sport Trac has 114,000 miles on it and my F-150 has 141,000 miles on it. I rarely do any towing, so that is out of the question. I just need so more room(and cruise, power windows, CD and tape player, remote keyless entry) in my F-150 but can't afford to by another one. What would you do? I think the Sport Trac's are awesome, but so are the F-150's. I know it would be a strech for getting $6000 for my truck but I've had offers close to that.
Thanks for your opinion...
-Matt

tough one, I like my fullsize 150 also and it would be hard to downsize. I do think 6000.00 is ballpark for your truck. The bottom line is look at your needs and go from there.

Take you time on deciding, maybe you can talk the owner of the Sporty to come down on the price!

As long as your '00 has what you want (A/C, stuff like that) I wouldn't trade! I agree with duggyb.... on the full size answer. I have a 97 XLT w/169,000 and I could not see myself going back to a mini-truck. At least you have the option to tow wit the bigger one.

id stick with what you got man! i lost my truck when i totaled it in an accident, which was exctly the same as yours, same year, manual, displacement, it had about as many miles as yours, and i miss it so much! i did upgrade with insurance money to a 2000 xlt 5.4, however i miss my little girl so much! i loved the fun of the 5 speed and wish i could have it in my current truck, i wouldnt trade if i were you! not to mention 6 grand is about the highest id expect to get for your truck

Agreed with both of you. My 97 has 218,000 and no way would I downsize willingly.

I bet your mom would take 6 Grand for her sport trac. On kelly blue book in excellent condition it says about 6400. Now, if she was going to give you a deal for like 4G, maybe i'd take it and sell it. But I would have to say keep your truck, UNLESS you REALLY want that sport trac. If her trac was a 4x4 i'd do it, but other than that all you're going to get is more room, less payload, a smaller box, probably lower tow rating, maybe more insurance premium.

Thanks for your opinions. You have all stated what I've been thinking. If she doesn't come WAY down on the price... Keeping my F-150. In the long run I will probably come out better with the F-150 and it will last longer.
