I have an Edelbrock performer series cam, Edelbrock performer series intake, and an Edelbrock 500cfm carb In my 302, I wonder what kind of hp I'm making . It is freshly rebuilt. I'm wondering cause I might put a different motor in it. I'm looking for more hp. about 300-330.
youre probably making around 240-250 horse, maybe a little more if you have headers and higher compression. if you want an honest 300 horse without revving the crap out of it you need more displacement. just swap in a hydraulic roller 351w and maybe an upgraded cam, or if you have a few more bucks to blow, a 408 stroker kit would be good, and you still wouldnt have to change the tranny.
The stock heads are the limiting factor, most dyno sheets I have seen put that type combo at around 275HP. Porting the heads will put it just over 300hp, strappng on a set of AFR 165s will make 400hp.
Not sure if it has anything to do with topic, but came across this article I found informative.
Sorry, came across article in FordMuscle Car forum, however, after posting thread found at some point FORDMUSCLE will prompt to subscribe if interested in getting additional information. Removed the link.

He is talking about the performer package not the rpm package....

Stock HO longblock makes 275 crank HP with a carb on it, if this performer cam is the one I think it is, #2122, then I don't see how it could make less.
Analysis Report for Street/Strip Engine with Desired HP Peak at 5000 RPM
Peak Tq =270. @ 3500 RPM .9 Ft Lbs per CuIn
Peak HP =226. @ 5000 RPM .75 HP per CuIn
I used e7 heads 8.0 to 1 and 600VS Holley
Just a note it will take a lot more than 165 heads to get that motor to 400HP
8 to 1 compression??? stock is running about 9 to 1. I'm sure you can run near 10 to 1 on premium running cast E7TE heads. I'm going for about 9.2 to 1 so i can get away on 87 octane with my 347 that i'm building up. dropping it 8 to 1 on the computer loses about 20 25 hp and the same in torque.

Not sure what he is running for compression......I took a guess
