Actually, being busy isn't the problem. I've been fighting a mild flu and I've had several threads I've lost track of....

As to the question:

I can code a Diablo for the WOM2 code. No standard options on it, only one code is available (not a common code).

You're looking at roughly 30 horsepower and 49 ft-lb torque.

Thanks, I will run the info by my dad (he's the one that wants it) and see what he says. Thanks again. Benjamin

My dad wants to know how the chip works. I don't know eneough about them to explain it. These are his questions: Can you get chips that don't require premium fuel? How does a chip give the engine more power? Why do you have to use premium fuel? Why won't premium help a stock engine? What is the chance of encreased gas mileage? And about how much will the increase be(normal driving conditions)? How can it give the engine more power and better fuel mileage? Anyone else who knows something for a fact feel free to post (but facts only please). Thanks. Benjamin

>Can you get chips that don't require premium fuel?

The only chips that work without premium don't give a power gain across the entire RPM curve, only at WOT.

>How does
>a chip give the engine more power?

By advancing the timing so the spark plug sparks sooner during combustion cycle, enriching fuel delivery where it gives a gain (within emissins limits) and leaning fuel delivery where it gives a gain.

>Why do you have to use
>premium fuel?

Premium burns slower. When you advance the timing with low octane gas the flame front is too fast, causing the gas to ignite so fast that it starts trying to push the piston down while its still traveling up. This is what causes pinging and its not good for the engine.

> Why won't premium help a stock engine?

Because the engine timing isn't tuned for it. Only cars that specifically state to use premium are tuned for it (Corvettes are one example).

>What is
>the chance of encreased gas mileage?
>And about how much will
>the increase be(normal driving conditions)?

Most people see a 1-2 mpg increase if your driving habits stay the same.

>How can it give
>the engine more power and better fuel mileage?

Because you're not gaining power by dumping more fuel into the engine. You're gaining it by increasing the efficiency of the engine.

The chip isn't doing anything magic. Essentially its doing the same thing via the computer that racers and tuners have been doing manually for decades on carburated/non-electronic cars: run premium and advancing the timing by advancing the distributor, changing the distributor curve and changing the distributor weight(s), optimize the air-fuel mixture with a really good high-end carb (there are limits to this with a carb) and adding a shift kit to the transmission.

Why doesn't Ford tune the computers to get the extra power and gas milage? Ford must tune for low octane gas, but how can chips improve performance on regular gas and stay emission friendly?

Thanks for the info,
John

Chips require premium. The chips don't tune for regular gas, they tune for premium. 91 is the lowest you can run them with, 93 is recommended, especially with the Diablo which tends to be a little more agreesive.

On some Fords you may get away with lower octane and a chip but only because the knock sensor is backing off the base timing (negating gains by the chip).
