Take a look at this web page;
http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...3d800a1365.jsp

Looks to me like it is located under the #6 intake/exhaust, with only the one plug to remove to twist it out.

Looks like it should cost around $20 to $30 depending on where you by it from.

There are 2 Temperature sensor.

One is located at the T'stat housing and is used by PCM
Another is located at engine block, right under the intake #6 and is used by Temperature gauge at instrument cluster.

In my experience, the best way to reach it is getting under truck, right under Starter you can pass through your right hand and tool. Cold engine of course but you have to remove first the coolant from engine or can get a coolant bath...

There is no need to remove any more parts...

There is an alternative way, using 2 long extensions (12" each), socket and ratchet been positioned at the right fender. After disconnecting the sensor wire, you can reach the sensor.

i have 2001 ford f250 powerstroke 7.3 my question is. ive only taken my truck to ford dealer maybe twice this last time it took them aprox.30 days to get my truck done. iam the first owner so i know how my truck runs.i picked up my truck today driving home i heard the fan clutch kicked in. in the six years that i drove this truck all of a sudden this happens. so i flip a uturn went back to the dealer. explain what had happen. they said its normal that the clutch is doing its job or that maybe my raidiator is fool of bugs and not getting enoughf air? so i clean the raidiator its free of bugs its still doing it. after checking the truck and radiator i notice the ECT sensor {engine coolant tempeture} had teflon tape look like it was remove.?I know ford dont normally use white teflon tape. unless they remove it.ill never take my truck to the dealer again
