Why is the price difference between Superchips and Diablochips for the V10 so much? Diablo claims +30hp and +49lbtque while the Superchip claims +26hp and +37lbtque but the superchip costs $100.00 more! Why is this? Is it the quality of the chip? Which will last the longest? Thanks. Benjamin
The physical hardware is the same, whether your truck is diesel, gas or a gas V10. There isn't a quality difference between gas, diesel, or gas V10. Superchips charges dealers as much for a V10 chip program as they do for a diesel program, Diablo doesn't. That's the only reason why the Superchip costs more.
There is nothing lower in quality about the Diablo product. The software that is programmed into the chip costs us, the dealer, less, so we pass that savings on to you. I've programmed MANY Diablo V10 chips with no problems.
Longevity isn't an issue, especially since the Diablo fits inside the computer, whereas the Superchips doesn't. The Superchip is prone to loosen up easier than the Diablo (some dealers will tell you a Superchip has a tighter grip on the ECU port and I used to believe this myself as a dealer until I did a test using a weight measure to see how much it takes to pull them off). This is especially true in the F150 (due to the computer clamp) and in the Ranger/Explorer is causes a tight fit.
As to horse-power, in most applications the Diablo puts out a little more than the Superchips (4.2s seem to be a draw and Superchips has the edge with EEC-IV generation ECUs). Superchips has a slightly harder shift than the Diablo.
