The wipers on my truck seem sloppy and don't always stop all the way down. They can be slightly moved independently of each other. Sometimes its the left sometimes its the right that stay up a couple inches. Also, the driver side one is now hitting the stainless or aluminium trim around the windshield.
Has anyone ever replaced the nylon bushings that connect the wiper linkage under the cowel? I have a very good idea that they are worn out or broken on my truck. I need to know how many of them there are and which ones to get before I go to the store to get them. Also, is there a special tool required? If anyone knows anything that might make this easier, please share.
Ford wants to sell you the whole assembly at over $ 100.00. Way over !
On my 1993 Mercury Villager, I snapped them off the ***** and greased the *****. I then cleaned out the nylon inserts with brake cleaner. I mixed up some JB Kwik and QUICKLY coated the inside of the insert with it. I then forced it onto the ball. When the unused Kwik on the mixing palet seemed firm, but still somewhat pliable, I turned the insert on the ball to make sure it wasn't seized as the epoxy further set. In about an hour your good to go for at least a few years.
LMC has em ,at least the wipper pivot arms (L 24.95- R 19.95 ) ,and wiper pivoy clips (1.95) Look at thier on line catolog at www.LMCTruck.com

I have seen a few different styles of the white nylon bushings in the HELP section at the local parts store. I was just wondering if they are the larger or smaller ones. The pivots with the little splines where the wiper are attached are tight and don't have any slop or play in them.
I saw a couple different packages of different sizes of them at autozone. I'm fairly sure that almost anyplace that has the HELP products in the red packages has them. The company that makes the help line is Dorman. You may have to look closely through the items they were hard to find.
I wonder how hard they are to replace though. Does anyone think I will need some new clips also?
Well, I disassembled everything and replaced the nylon bushing. They were trashed. I have an issue with the pivot that the wiper arm mounts to on both sides. I'm not sure if that is what it is called, but it has splines on it. They are all sloppy and lose. I guess they are worn out. If you ask me thats just crap. They should still be in good working order. Is this something that people have has alot of problems with going out? I can't find any of them locally. One would think that the auto parts store would have them. This is weak! I don't understand why the housing isn't metal. Its plastic and the metal internals wore it out and it couldn't take it. Thats just my guess.
