It is "recommended" but not necessary. The LL is no longer needed when you eliminate the deadhead on the driver's side fuel rail. Swapping it out with an AD injector gets rid of that last bit of cackle. On my engine when I swapped out the LL, I improved rotational velocity on that cylinder and eliminated the bit of knock on #8.
