Need to replace the radius arm bushings and wanted to know if any body here has done this. Will the axle go far enough forward to do this or do I need to remove the bracket from the frame?
Yes, there should be some previous posts on replacing those bushings. You can do it either way, pulling the axle beams forward to clear the brackets, or removing the brackets from the frame. I find it a bit hardere on the 4WD TTB to pull the whole assembly forward enough to clear the brackets, so I usually do option two. If you have any rivets holding the brackets, it's easy to grind them off and punch out, then replace with Grade-8 bolts. If you do it that way, I find it easier to install the bushings on the bracket first, with the big rear nut loosely installed. then raise the bracket to the frame. You may need to use a come-along to pull the bracket in close enough, and a long punch to align the four bolt holes. Just be really careful of the wiring and hard lines inside the driver's side frame rail, JSM84
Coil comes off quick if you have air tools.... I have owned Ford TTB frontends since my 1970 F-100.. so I am used to doing that way.. I never even thought of/heard of chiseling the rivets until I came to this site..
