well Guys my little beast actually did it on a trip from springfield Mo up to St louis at a snails pace with the cruise set on 73 mph and getting passed on the highway by everything from a semi to a little old lady in an ahmish buggy my 4.0 4x4 auto pig of a ranger got 26.7 mpg seems like all the mobil 1 the programmer, volant and the gibson cat back finally paid off.Granted the whinning of my girlfriend the whole trip up there made me want to turn on my blue and red lights and the siren and smash on the gas peddle just to get there and keep her quiet!!! Im a vollie firefighter/paramedic if some of you are wondering bout the red/blues and the siren. but this little truk always finds someway to surprise me when we get home im gonna treat her the truck that is to a tranny flush and a coolant flush and if the dealer is reasonable maybe the transfer case. just did the power streering few weeks ago, gezzzzzz was that fun,
getting time for new tires too cant afford another set of bfg and these goodyear wranglers sams club specials dont grip worth a crap. Any ideas out there????

wtf, something has to be wrong with my vehicle, im getting killed. the best i could do is 17, and most of my driving is city so im probably getting 13.
the killer is that i rarely bring it over 3500 rpm's.
I get 19-20/23-25 on average. That 27 was a one time thing headed to Austin (or back, I don't remember) with good winds doing about 80-85.
'94, reg cab, short bed, 4.0L, stick, 4x2, 3.08 rear end. The 3.08 probably helps me on the highway, but I also run it up to around 3-3.5K all the time around town and my city mileage is still good.
Hell, that's all up and down hills too. As for tires a guy here at work got General grabber at2's and he loves them. I have heard they are good in rain and snow, but do'nt do well in the soupy mud. but all that is ssecond hand info. By the way, what are you doing up here in St. Loo?
I did as well, I figured there was no way my truck could possibly have gotten that mileage. So I sat there and blocked the gas pump for a good 2 minutes while I did the math and laughed about it.
Welcome to the club, I get 22/24 and got 25 once, I also have mods and a 5-speed, not to mention mobil1. I have 265/75 bfg's, I may get better with stock tires, but no way will I give up my bfg's, I will push it first. I'm telling you guy's that the bama programer makes a difference in mpg and power.
Are you looking for an A/T tire or an M/T? On the M/Ts I would try the Hercules Durango. Not too pricey and we run them on our F350s and get 40K miles out of them pulling trailers all the time. The Kumho Venture M/T is also a pretty good tire from what I have heard as well as some of the Hankook tires. I still prefer my BFGs but if you don't wanna pony up the dough for them there are some good alternatives out there that are lesser known. Dunlop's Rover line is also pretty good.
yah I would love to put another set of BFGs on there I loved the traction they got in the snow when we went skiing and also on runs to the fire station, but the funds arent quite there maybe will see if i can try and squeeze some more miles out of these sams club wranglers and save up some more pennies for some 265 bfgs
i had a set of dunlop rover rtvs.. they suck in the snow. full size bronco even in 4 hi all they would do is spin. they did good on sand and mud though.
I'm running Michelin LTX M/S. Definitely worth it.
Thats what came on my 2000 F350 when I got it and they are still on there but they are mostly bald. With the small amount of tread left, they dont get much traction but I've heard they are very good tires. When I bought the truck it had 113K on it and now has 123K but I'm not sure how long they have been on there.
