2002 Expedition Starting Problems

My 2002 Expedition will not start. Acting like fuel problem. Starts and dies. starts and dies. Service Engine light has been on am in the process of checking codes there. No new fuel bought recently so have no reason to suspect filter but will change that to rule it out. Any help.

Idle?

If it refuses to Idle, check the IAC, Idle Air Control Valve. Easy to clean (mixed results) or replace.

If it will barely start, and you have to frantically pump the gas pedal just to keep it choking and spitting and sputtering before it dies (and definitely dies when you come off of the gas pedal), then I second IAC valve.

Another possibility (at least on my 2000 Expedition), if I have 1/4 tank of gas or less, and am facing downhill, it won't start. Get the Expedition facing uphill, and it will start all day long!

Thanks Kailor that was exactly the problem. I had less than 1/4 tank, added about a gallon, it started and hasn't quit since. Thanks.
