Let me ask this, looking at the tru-cool it is a 40k model, the factory one is a 28 k GVW model. So when you tie the two together, figure you would be flowing around 68k, maybe. On Pure Diesel Power they have the upgrade on the will also flow 40k but it goes in place of the factory. Would it be easier to go with the Pure Diesel one? I just looking at not having to find a spot for another cooler if it flows just about the same.
the tru-cool is very easy to install took about 30 min for me, I mounted it up behind the grille on top and Ive had no problems, do you have too many things mounted up front. Its a very nice kit and easy I would recommend it!
I'm with indebt, the tru-cool is very easy to install. Remove front grill, drill a couple holes in the supports, matches right up to the mouning brackets on the tru-cool. Bolt on cooler, run lines, top off tranny, done. The tru-cool is tried and tested for non-restrictive flow in series with the stock cooler. Plus you can pick one up for about $120 including shipping. Probably either way you go you won't regret it, but for ease and cost, the tru-cool can't be beat. If you go with the tru-cool, just make sure you get the non-bypass version. The tranny already has a bypass of its own, so you don't need it on the cooler.
I will add my .02. Go with the Tru-Cool. Piece of cake to install and the results are amazing. Installed mine almost two weeks ago and the highest temp I have seen was 150* on a 97* day towing the boat down the freeway.
Looking at installing a tru-cool,I have the factory tranny cooler between the a/c and radiator and the 2 lines run from it straight back to the tranny, traced them all the way. Theres one place from the cooler lines that come out to the side of the frame /motor area where they are rubber for about a foot. My question is that the place the tru-cool is taped in so you would have the cooler in a series , just trying to picture where the line are tapped or am I on the wrong track.
Yes, that is the place. You tap into the line that goes to the rear of the transmission. That is the return line. Tap into that one, connect one end to the Tru-Cool and then run a line from the Tru-Cool to the other end of the splice and you are done.
The instructions tell you to cut the rubber hose on the return line and splice into it. I didn't do that. I removed the rubber line from the steel return and attached the long hose for the cooler to the steel line and then the short hose I connected to the rubber line using a hose barb that was supplied with the kit. If you order from Diseselsite you can order the Power Stroke installation kit and it will come with the extra hose.
