carb needed

anyone got a carb for my 78 460? i looked in the local salvage yard and no go. i have a leaking 2 bbl now. i can rebuild if needed. thanks

no, the truck had a 400 and at some point was changed to a 460. it still has the 2 bbl, probably from the 400.

Ah...you could find one in rebuildable condition on eBay...or pay for an aftermarket like Edelbrock's 600CFM carburetor.

Check with the carb forum. There are lots of threads there on rebuilding that carb. It is an easy rebuild.

Is yours leaking at the sides ?

Once the bushings are gone.... AFAIK, they can't be rebuilt from kits.

ps,I have one from a 78 here sitting in a box.

Does it have a 2bbl intake?? I didnt think 460's ever came with a 2bbl.

Did pickups with a 460 ever come with a 2bbl?

My Carb reference book says 4bbl only

the intake is a 4bbl, it has an adaptor plate with a 2 bbl on it now. dennis i'd love that carb. send me a message for pricing etc. thanks

4300/4350

If it has a 4 bbl intake, can you tell if it is a spreadbore design? Fords spreadbore carbs were not the same pattern as the rochester spreadbores. Some of the earlier 429's had the 4300D spreadbores, while the 76 and up had the 4350 spreadbore carbs. I had a 76 460 van with a 4350 (so did my brother) and we spent many an hour working on those *#*$# 4350's. They had a square tube looking thing in the center of the rear barrels--weird looking. I believed they were rated less than 500 cfm's, even as a 4 bbl.

Regardless, you may need a 4300 series (70 351C's had a 4300C) difference in 4300C & 4300D was cfm rating, "D" was more. You may be able to adapt to a holly, or other, square bore with an adapter.
