frame differences

hey guys, first off, i have a 1997 old bodystyle f350 xlt 4x4 with a 351. im looking to buy some headers for it, and it looks like my only option is shorty headers. i see longtubes that say they fit 92-95 trucks. what changed from 95 to 97? i thought 92-96 trucks were all basically the same. does anyone know what changed and what would prohibit me from running long-tube headers?

should be same . You may have OBDII and it has more O2 sensors. But you can weld the bung in. But everything else should be same.

go to the exhaust shop and ask if the soild front axle is going to be a problem. I know with 80-96 f150's, Solid Axle Swaps will interefere with long tube headers because of the placement.

The '97 HD trucks in the old body are the same as the HD trucks from '92 up, nothing changed at all, they were held over until the new body HD was ready. They are not OBD II either, still ran the same old EEC IV computer we all know and love/hate. If you find longtubes to fit any '92+ HD truck, they will fit the '97.

awesome, thats what i always thought as far as changes go. they didnt change anything in the 5.8L 351 engine in those years that would affect headers, right? and the truck was solid axle from the factory, its a 350. and its lifted and sits 10" over stock anyway, i dont see how the axle would affect anything. i think ill look into this more. thanks guys.

Yes they are OBDII my good sir. All of our trucks 96+ are OBDII. Proof? My brothers 97 F250 HD is OBDII.

I thought it was the law for all 1996-current to be OBD II

anyway, i called JetHot, and the guy said it should fit, but he said he couldnt be sure and told me to try hooker's tech line. i called and missed them closing by a minute. i sent em an email, but ill try and call tomorrow. hopefully i can get some longtubes on this thing!

Skan has got one of them Cali trucks, they seem to have got everything first. Skan does that include added emissions?
