I am replacing the 5R55E transmission in my '97 Explorer and everywhere I look to get one they ask me if it has a drum sensor. I can only assume that this is overdrive. Can anyone confirm and tell me what to look for on the housing of the replacement tranny that would tell me the replacement has it (an extra connector for example and where it would be)? Thanks a bunch.

Hi. This may help.
Overdrive Drum Speed (ODS) Sensor
- The overdrive drum speed (ODS) sensor is a magnetic pickup that sends the powertrain control module (PCM) information on the rotation speed of the overdrive drum.
- The ODS sensor is mounted externally on the left-side front of the transmission case.
- The PCM uses ODS sensor signals to help determine e.ectronic pressure control (EPC) pressure, shift scheduling and torque converter clutch (TCC) operation.
