but don't need a programmer to waste fuel (which is what's happening with it smokes)
any situation where you are giving more fuel than boost will smoke....
like when in a taller gear and flooring it....
try putting it in third at a stop and flooring it - a terrible waste of fuel ensues !
many programmers that smoked were because they were not programmed effeciently and just dumped a lot of fuel to get the power...
a truck can be fast if tuned to use ALL the fuel up to the proper air/fuel mixture...
Agree 100%. You will probably get flamed for this one.
I guess I could start it out. Blowing black smoke is nothing more than waisting fuel. Black smoke is pure unburnt diesel. If you really want to throw away your money you can send it to me..
It's people like this that are making the EPA come up with more and more strick standards, and testing, for diesel. People wanting to blow black smoke, in my mind, is one of the main reasons diesels are almost becoming extinct. It's that old mind set of "this guy pissed me off so I dusted him". That kind of crap is what is making all this emmission stuff go into the new gen diesels. Not completly, but part of the reason anyways. People that don't own diesel get this bad image of guys (like this) going around town blowing black smoke over everyone. flame on
well to load a tune takes about 5 minutes ,, so you would have to pull over and swap tunes ,, not very practical ?
I had an Edge juice with attitude that was a shift on the fly ,, I had it set so it would fog pretty good ,,
but thats just not practical either ,, my tune i run now you can if you want blow some smoke by punching the throttle and releasing
but like stated it's so frowned upon because it gets diesels a bad rap I never do it in public view
unless I see someone chucks a lit cigarette out of their window ,, then it's game on
Ahh, now who said I'm going to go around town blowing black smoke on everyone?
I just wanted a little something for when I get a friend behind me in his diesel truck.
That's all.
Uh huh, and then you get noticed by someone that you didn't see was there and then you have some issues. Then eventually we all do. I don't have a problem with someone having fun as long as it doesn't affect me in the end. That will.
Now that is if you do this on a public road, if you do it in a field or on the track, have fun.
But what happens if in trying to smoke out you "friend" behind you, it affects other people?
There's a thread on powerstroke.org in the 6.0 performance parts section titled "Smoke Switch". Go read that thread and see what people REALLY think about this moronic practice that's cost a LOT of people more than you can possibly imagine. I'm far from being a tree hugger but this practice NEEDS TO STOP.
Tyler you may have opened up a can of worms especially if a tree huger reads it.
I will agree on that. Lol

When I had my cummins it would only really get the person directly behind me, I wouldn't think a ford programmer would do much more w/o major mods to the motor, and the only time I really did use it to smoke was in the parking lot where I work, private property...off road use.
