ok, I pulled the plug off of the hpop and stuck a rod down to the bottom, and it's completely dry. Now what?

Pour it ful of oil, about 1 inch from the top IIRC... then start your engine. Might have to keep doing this until you get home to do the HPOP repairs (don't know if you'll need to replace the entire unit or not, but I would suspect that there is a flow control part that can be repleced for much less than the entire unit).

I'm in Madison, a few miles from there. If you need a tow or some tools that I might have, give me a holler.

Thanks for all of your help guys. I Just got home, my buddy left with his laptop on tuesday. I filled the HPOP with iol to get it running. I went to an International dealer to get the check valve, but they looked at me like I was stupid, so I still need to fix that. So long as I started it every 8 or 10 hours, I had no more problems. So where is this check valve??

I'm not positive on this but i remember reading on here that ford and international say the check valve is non servicable and you have to replace the HPOP. I think i remember one member saying that it is repairable and he did it succesfully. Hopefully someone else will chime in and confirm this and add how to fix it. Glad you got home

There is a check valve in the HPOP, the bottom plug just below the output lines. Yes Ford says it is not serviceable but if you remove the HPOP and flip it upside down the plug can be removed and the oring replace without loosing the ball and rendering the HPOP useless.

The anti drainback check valve is in the top of the block just outside of being under the HPOP. During cold starts oil is fed from the LPOP to the HPOP through the anti drainback check valve, during warm starts the HPOP is fed from the reservoir. If the anti drainback check valve has debris in it it can stick open and drain the reservoir and if it is stuck open the HPOP is trying to be fed from the reservoir cold or hot..

There was a plug, that after searching through old threads, looked like what Alan is talking about. As I'm looking at the motor, on the left side of the HPOP, behind and below it, is a 15/16 head 'bolt' that actually when I pulled it, was basically a pipe plug with a spring in the hole. I couldn't see / feel anthing else in the hole. Would this be the LPOP anti drainback ofr was I just messing with something else that I probably shouldn't have??

I don't think that is it. I think you need to be concerned with a fitting that supplies LPO to the HPOP.
