I'm considering the 'GMS' MAF first and then the chip. I was told by a friend the Diablo chip is really good. What's your opinion on this and what is the best approach.
The Superchips has a couple of drawbacks in your case:
1. The high cost of custom coding for your planned modifications.
2. The Ranger/Mazda's computer box doesn't have good clearance for a Superchips. The computer will not bolt completely back in unless the back of the housing is cut to allow the chip to clear. The Diablo just barely fits, but it does fit. I've run both in my Ranger and know from first hand experience that the Diablo is preferrable.
Thanks, I’ll get the Diablo. I just have a few more questions. Should I get the MAF sensor first or the Diablo? I was told the chip might give me the results (more power and responsiveness) I want, so is the MAF up-grade relevant at that point or will the chip basically do the job? I will get both if you think it matters. Would I be better off getting the Diablo and the MSD instead or all three?
The chip will need to be custom coded for the MAF. Either way, before or after, the price for custom will be the same. You can get the chip now, add the upgrades later and send the chip in for the custom code. Or do it all at once. Each upgrade will help, the combination would be a knockout! :-)
MAF is "mass air flow." Its a sensor the vehicle uses to measure the amount of air coming into the engine. By knowing the amount of air the computer knows how much fuel to add.
