I'm getting ready to install a Jet Performance Chip in my 92 F-250 HD 4X4 460 ci with K&N filter, Flowmaster cat back. What can I expect for performance increases? Good/bad idea?
I looked at the Jet and the Diablo and settled on the Superchip for all around use and the greatest promised increase in torque. I have pretty much the same truck you do and have been very happy with the Superchip/B&M shift kit mod. I'm at 250,700 now and not a problem. I dyno'd the truck after the installation and it read 3 more hp than promised and 10 ft.lb torque more than advertised. I have the K&N FIPK as well and a Magnaflow cat back. Hope all works out as well for you.

So they do make chips for 90's F-150 because i would like to get 1 for my 95 F-150 5.8L V-8
Superchips hasn't done development on EEC-IV PCMs for a long time. Anything you get from them is old code. I recommend going with Diablo or SCT. Despite claims from Superchips, Diablo and SCT will smack them on the track.

Remember, mine's a '94, it's old. I did the upgrades long ago and when I did them they were cutting edge. I am sure there have been improvements and if there is better, I would buy it for a new truck, I can see the Diablo or SCT, I've just not been impressed by Jet though. Check Motorhaven on the link and you will find what you need. I've heard more good about the Diablo of the two, but Ken is in tune with these things and more current than I.
Its the same chip for a 86, an 88, or an 02. For a 4.6, a 5.8, or a 2.3.... etc. The Diablo and SCT chip is blank and its programmed for the application.
I would think about the Diablo and check around in the forums for other worthwhile upgrades you can perform on your 460.
I had a Jet in my Jeep and it made absolutly zero difference in feelable, seat of the pants HP, the only feelable differnce was in my pocket for the Premium fuel and the chip that dident make any improvement in performance.
bansheemike,
I hope you have better luck than I did trying to get my money back for a jet chip that did nothing for my truck. It should be renamed the "joke" chip. My buddy had a 91 F250 4x4 460 and had it dyno tuned. He was towing horses with it and it ran much better. It cost him about the same as my "joke" chip $200+/- but he got results and I got the shaft. I don't think a chip or tuner will do much for your 92 460. If you really want to see a jump in performance spend your money on a towing cam.
I wish you guys with all that experience and knowledge would be more specific in your help and advise to a specific users needs. Here is a big heavy old truck with a 460 made for towing. How about some realworld results from guys that have actually increased their performance on this year truck and engine and what they did? These chips and tuners sound great in the ad but are definitely not the answer for this particular truck and engine.
