I have a 99 PSD which I use primarily for hauling a slide-in camper(2500pounds). I am interested in re-programming the chip for better performance and hopefully better mileage. Even on moderate hills, I have to shut off overdrive when using cruise control to stop the frequent shifting in and out. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
A switch chip, such as the Diablo Delta, has the advantage of being able to flip between horsepower settings on the fly. The down side is the installation headache (the Powerstroke trucks are the worst next to the Powerstroke vans and the Rangers/Explorers are the easiest). This allows you to monitor EGTs and switch to the lower HP setting if you're getting high EGTs. This is a major plus for towing.
The Microtuner has the disadvantage of not being able to flip on the fly but it has no installation headaches (plug into the ADL port under the steering wheel, floor the on-screen instructions and 5 minutes later you unplug it). This also lets you return the truck to stock quickly and it leaves no codes in the computer. The biggest plus of the Microtuner is that it always works. No ECU code mismatches, no having to reprogram your chip if the dealer reflashes your computer.
We offer either choice: the Microtuner for fool-proof ease of use and the Diablo Delta for safe on the fly switching of programs.
